Prof João Luís Silva Carvalho:
A leading expert in Reproductive Medicine and the founder of CETI
Professor João Luís Silva Carvalho is an obstetrician-gynaecologist specialising in reproductive medicine. He holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine in Porto, which he obtained unanimously with distinction and congratulations from the jury.
Professor Silva Carvalho has taught at the Faculty of Medicine in Porto and has chaired the Portuguese Society of Reproductive Medicine.
He is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and has been awarded the international ‘Grant for Fertility Innovation’ prize.
He currently practices exclusively at the CETI in Porto, Portugal. His clinical training has acquired an international dimension thanks to courses at the Spaarne Hospital (Netherlands), the Instituto Dexeus (Barcelona) and laparoscopic surgery courses at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at the Academisch Ziekenhuis-Vrije Universiteit (Brussels).
In 2024, CETI established a strategic partnership with the prestigious British Association Storks of Hope, an aid organisation for infertile people, to provide its members with rapid and safe access to fertility treatments that meet the most advanced human, clinical and technological standards.

Professor João Luís Silva Carvalho’s team consists of 17 doctors, including 10 fertility specialists and 4 embryologists. The team works together with other specialists, like urologists for male infertility and emergency medicine experts to support fertility procedures.

Portuguese law on MAP
The Portuguese law on Medically Assisted Reproduction (MAP) governs practices and procedures relating to assisted reproduction in Portugal.
Women can be up to 50 years old. There is no age limit for men.
Donors cannot be considered as the parents of the unborn child.
Female couples and single women are allowed access to MAP.
